Feminist Ukraine – A New Geopolitical Sisterhood
The Polish feminist association Elles sans frontières is organising the VIII Congress of Women in Brussels on the topic: Feminist Ukraine – a New Geopolitical Sisterhood from December 1st to December 3rd. The events take place in two prestigious locations: on the 1st of December in the European Parliament, and on Saturday the 3rd – in the museum of modern art K1-Kanal – Centre Pompidou.
Intellectuals, politicians, scientists and artists will debate the role of women in Ukraine’s struggle against the Russian war of aggression, and their fight for independence, democracy, equality and human rights. The Congress will host Ukrainian women travelling from Ukraine especially for this occasion, like Kateryna Levchenko, Governmental Commissioner for Gender Equality, Oksana Zabuzhko, an internationally acclaimed novelist and a leading public figure in Ukraine advocating for democracy, and Hrystyna Kit, chairwoman of JurFem – Association of Women’s Lawyers of Ukraine. Sarah Schlitz, the Belgian federal State Secretary for Gender Equality, will join as well.
“The Congress will be the opportunity to reflect on the progressive response of Ukraine – and Ukrainian women in particular – to the anachronic colonial aggression of Russia, as well as societal and political challenges ahead of the country, its European aspirations and a path towards the EU. As Polish women in Brussels we would also like to highlight the image of Ukrainian women as heroines who fight for their and our freedom, democracy and our shared European values. Contemporary Ukraine can teach us a lot – not only how to resist, but also how to build a better society based on equality, democracy and openness” – said Agata Araszkiewicz, president of Elles sans frontières.
VIII Congress of Women in Brussels will be opened by the high level two-hour event in the European Parliament (room 4B001 in the SPAAK building) on Thursday, 1 December at 14:00, co-hosted by three Vice-Presidents: Evelyn Regner, Ewa Kopacz and Dimitrios Papadimoulis. On Saturday, 3 December the Congress will continue with a whole day event starting at 10:00 in K1-Kanal Centre Pompidou, avenue du Port 1, 1000 Brussels. Apart from panel discussions covering topics like women’s participation in the war defending Ukraine, conflict-related sexual violence or Ukraine’s European future, there will be a fair with Ukrainian handicrafts and fashion, numerous workshops, a book fair, as well as a art performance and Ukrainian art auction. Feministyczna Ukraina – nowe siostrzanstwo geopolityczne
Polskie feministyczne stowarzyszenie Elles sans frontières organizuje VIII Kongres Kobiet w Brukseli na temat: Feministyczna Ukraina – nowe siostrzanstwo geopolityczne, który odbędzie się w dniach 1-3 grudnia w dwóch prestiżowych lokalizacjach, najpierw w Parlamencie Europejskim (1 grudnia), a następnie w muzeum sztuki nowoczesnej Kanal – Centre Pompidou (3 grudnia).
Intelektualistki, polityczki, naukowczynie i artystki będą debatować na temat roli kobiet w walce Ukrainy przeciwko rosyjskiemu agresorowi, a także dzialan na rzecz niepodległości, demokracji, równości i praw człowieka. W Kongresie wezmą udział Ukrainki specjalnie przyjeżdżające na tę okazję z Ukrainy do Brukseli jak Kateryna Lewczenko, Pełnomocniczka Rządu Ukrainy ds. równości płci, Oksana Zabużko, uznana na całym świecie powieściopisarka oraz wiodąca postać publiczna na Ukrainie na rzecz demokracją oraz Hrystyna Kit, przewodnicząca „JurFem” – stowarzyszenia prawniczek Ukrainy. Dołączy również Sarah Schlitz, belgijska federalna sekretara stanu ds. równości płci.
„Kongres będzie okazją do refleksji nad progresywna reakcją Ukrainy – a zwłaszcza Ukrainek – na anachroniczną kolonialną agresję Rosji, a także nad wyzwaniami społecznymi i politycznymi stojącymi przed krajem, jego europejskimi aspiracjami i drogą do Unii Europejskiej. Jako Polki w Brukseli pragniemy również unaocznić role i podkreślić wizerunek Ukrainek jako bohaterek walczących o swoją i naszą wolność, demokrację i nasze wspólne europejskie wartości. Współczesna Ukraina może nas wszystkich wiele nauczyć – nie tylko jak stawiać czoła rosyjskiemu agresorowi, ale tez jak budować lepsze, bo równościową demokrację i otwarte społeczeństwo” – powiedziała Agata Araszkiewicz, prezeska Elles sans frontières.
VIII Kongres Kobiet w Brukseli otworzy dwugodzinna debata wysokiego szczebla w Parlamencie Europejskim (sala 4B001 w budynku SPAAK) w czwartek, 1 grudnia o godzinie 14:00, sala współorganizowana przez trzech wiceprzewodniczących Parlamentu: Evelyn Regner, Ewę Kopacz i Dimitriosa Papadimoulisa. Oprócz paneli dyskusyjnych na takie tematy jak udział kobiet w wojnie z Ukrainą, przemoc seksualna w konfliktach zbrojnych czy europejska przyszłość Ukrainy, odbędą się targi ukraińskiego rękodzieła i mody, liczne warsztaty, kiermasz książki, a także performance artystyczny i aukcja ukraińskiej sztuki.
